Periodontal disorders are classified in gingivitis (inflammations of gums only) and periodontitis (inflammation of gums and of the teeth surrounding bone). Inflammations are of a bacterial nature in 90% of the cases.
Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gums especially manifested by gum bleeding during brushing, mastication, whether accompanied or not by localized discrete pains or by gum swelling.
Gingivitis may evolve towards periodontitis, but not necessarily.
Periodontitis is the inflammation of the gums and of the supporting bone, which leads to the resorption of the latter and the creation of periodontal bags. Gum bleeding and permanent secretions in the gum sulcus occur.
Periodontal operations are recommended and beneficial in order to prevent and remove potential movements and transformations that may be followed by the loss of your teeth.
